Jonathan merited his victory, says Obasanjo

Obasanjo2Former President Olusegun Obasanjo said President Goodluck Jonathan’s victory at the recent polls was merited and that his election and the results would in fact further strengthen the unity and stability of Nigeria. Obasanjo was addressing a press conference at the just-concluded 21st World Economic Forum on Africa which convened leaders, business executives, development partners as well as the civil society groups to discuss the future for the continent.

Obasanjo also said Jonathan did not only merit the victory but electing a president from the South-South minority for the first time in Nigeria’s history was right and good for the country’s democracy. Jonathan had pulled about 60percent of the votes cast at the presidential elections to beat Mohammad Buhari, former military head of state; Nuhu Ribadu, former chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission and Ibrahim Shekarau, former Kano State governor, among other contestants.
